The Eastern Dry Rocks is a part of the Sanctuary Preservation Area along with Rock Key and Sand Key. This area is located about six miles southwest of Key West and about two miles east of Sand Key. Preservation areas like this one are protected by a set of regulations established to make sure the delicate nature of the area is preserved. Down on the Eastern Dry Rocks wrecks, you will find an old galleon on the southwestern part of the wreck. The boat is equipped with stone ballast complete with brass fillings. Down here, you will find a variety of large coral and you will often see curious spiny lobster.
